JOURNAL ENTRY - 364

 

 

To put oneself into isolation to achieve a greater goal, Journal Entry-364 is a menswear collection that aims to materialize the emotion of solitude through the lens of fashion. Solitude is reflected through two specific areas of research, the Terra Nova expedition (1910) and the “One Year Performance” series by Tehching Hsieh. The Terra Nova expedition demonstrates solitude in a literal sense, where one is physically isolated from others. Objects such as maps, tents, compasses, and more are seen as totems symbolizing the solitariness one would experience through a journey.

 

“One Year Performance” by Tehching Hsieh explores solitude in a conceptual form. By self-enforcing isolation, Hsieh mentally and physically detached himself from society to complete his artistic practice. Journal Entry-364 combines the two areas of focus by Incorporating the extracted references into elements of fashion, literally and metaphorically, in an effort to convey solitude through the medium of garments.
